March 2007 newsletterWelcome to the March 2007 edition of the Heavenly Images Photography newsletter. This month we are going to look at how the time of day can affect your photography session. Time of day and your photo sessionThe human eye is an amazing organ. It can almost immediately adjust to changing light conditions keeping your view the same as the amount of light changes. As you go through the day you probably do not notice the quality of light changing because your eyes are adjusting. Cameras do not have this ability. The light that is captured on film, or on a digital sensor, does not go through any sort of filtering before the image is captured. Adding to that it is not light that gives us a feeling of depth in what we see, it is the shadows. Light coming from directly above, the noon time sun for example, will produce very few shadows and lead to an image without much feel of depth. Morning and evening sunlight gives deeper, more directional shadows and also a warmer light. If you have the option, a morning or early evening photography session will generally have the most interesting light for your photographs. We prefer to schedule sessions between 30 minutes and an hour after sunrise for the morning and two to three hours before sunset for evening sessions.
